Will China's RoRo operators be successful game changers someday?
In the very last month of the year of 2022, CMRORO, a subsidiary of CMES which is one of the two SOE shipping conglomerates in China launched consecutively its “ international shipping routes' ' RORO service as listed below.
International Shipping Routes Of CMRORO
Furthermore, it was reported that on December 4, 2022, CMRORO and China Merchants Industry signed a letter of intent for cooperation in the construction of 2+4 9000CEU methanol dual-fuel PCTC (ro-ro car carriers), of which 2 actual ships will be delivered no later than 2025. The 4 option ships will be delivered no later than 2026.
According to CMRORO, this type of ship is currently the largest and most advanced Ro-Ro ship in the world, which can be deployed on the routes from China to Europe, America, Africa region etc.
Meanwhile as a step to enlarge their fleet, they are intent to buy in more RORO ships and convert their currently-owned coastal purpose ships to international use ones.
It reported that they are open to cooperate with other partners within and outside of the China Merchants group.
All of these well reflected their ambitions, we should send them our warm congratulations but how far could they go? RORO business has its own characteristics, thus one question came to my mind, that is, Will China's RoRo operators be successful game changers someday?
